Thursday Afterthoughts

Well if there’s one thing you can count on around here it’s that I’m not always meeting my goals which is how Thursday Thoughts turned itself today into Friday’s afterthought.

It seems there are more things to do than hours in the day and that just never stops being true. Not only do I run out of time, I run out of the steam that is pushing me forward.

After I finish the things I have to finish, I don’t always have space or energy to do the things that I want to finish or more accurately, start.

Which leads me to wonder…

Are the things we have to do fillers? Or are they truly tasks that need to be completed?

What would happen if we started the day with the things we wanted to do? I don’t mean ignoring responsibilities although it kind of sounds like that’s what I’m saying but i think what I’m trying to ask is this:

Are the things we want to do- the things that give us fuel to go full steam ahead through our have to’s…

aren’t those our responsibilities too?

Aren’t we responsible to ensure we are taking care of our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health?

Aren’t those things as important as our chores, our jobs, and our roles in life?

Are the want to’s things that make us better in our have to’s?

I don’t know.

Maybe we should spend more time waking up to the things that fill our souls so that we can do the things that tend to suck us dry without actually being sucked dry.

I’m kind of curious what’ll happen if I consistently start my day with Jesus over coffee or snuggles over decluttering or writing over laundry or yoga over dishes.

Maybe I’ll meet more of my goals and feel more complete joy and be more wholly present.

I don’t know.

Maybe.
