I hate summer now and I didn’t used to.

But my kids love it and I wanted to reclaim some of that joy and I think that joy is found in the moment to moment choices where we decide whether we’re gonna be rushed or take our time, where we’re gonna be present or preoccupied, where we’re gonna be intentional or just go through the motions.
I’m not saying social media is to blame for all the rushed, preoccupied, mindless things we do in our day to day.

I’m just saying that since I logged out of the Big Three a month ago I have had the capacity to crochet a blanket, read a book, make (almost nightly) dinners, work on a book proposal, reach out to friends and have felt more connected to my husband and kids, all while sharpening some Arabic skills.
My publisher also told me that my book has been purchased five times in the last nine days.

My head hurts less and my heart feels more full.
Maybe our screen time is not only sucking our time but also stealing our joy and creativity and overall mental well-being.
Maybe social media needs us more than we need it.
Maybe that mother forking screen time tracker is trying to tell us something and maybe we should listen.

After Thoughts
Originally posted on my Substack but then I decided to work smarter and not harder so I also sent it out in my newsletter and I may be off the social sites but nothing’ll keep me from sharing somewhere that has the capacity to serve us both so if you’re the real OG and you’re in all the places sorry for all the notifications but I added a few (probably one too many but can there really be too many) GIFs here to make it worth your while. 🥰
