WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS {I THINK}
It is rare that I am able to sit down and watch television. Unless it it PJ Mask or The Lion Guard; which let’s be honest, sometimes that is the best thing on. You know that television is really lacking in quality when you finally get all the kids to bed and think to yourself,
“I’m gonna catch up on some television.”
You start flipping through all the channels {about 260 of them to be exact} and settle on Super Why because it is either that or another dose of Kim K. and the crew. But, every once in awhile, there’s an incredible exception.
I heard about a little show with big heart and woah; apparently when I like something, I become dangerously obsessed with it. I am googling all the interviews, watching all the after shows and even waking up at 4 am to catch the latest episode {thanks to my good ol’ on demand system}. There is absolutely no way anyone could watch this show and not be floored. I mean, I really don’t want to build it up but…
This is us. Is amazing {downplay}. Tuesdays NBC 9/8 pm cst.
The plot. I just can’t give it away. Because if you haven’t seen it {did I mention, you need to} you deserve to discover it for yourself. But, trust me when I tell you: Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Howard {he is incredible}, Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley will crush your soul in every way possible. The best part of this show, besides the remarkable story telling {again, not to build it up}, is that they aren’t going for the shock factor. Nothing is being dragged out {based on the first 11 episodes}. You don’t have to wait for Randall to tell his brother that he found his biological father {that’s probably a spoiler}. Toby’s fate wasn’t a long drawn out, “let’s make ’em wait for ratings”, scenario. It is about uncovering this family’s truth and the way they do it is just so gosh darn wonderful. This is me limiting my enthusiasm.
The acting. Other than Mandy Moore I have not seen any of these actors in any role. Where have they been? Or probably more accurately, where have I been? They give such honest and real portrayals of their characters; it is beautiful.
Rebecca. She is the cool chic I wanna be. She does everything for the benefit of her family. Sometimes blinded by her own desires and unable to see what is truly best, but try she does. What wife and mother can’t relate to her?
Jack. He’s the best. Loving father and devoted husband {minus that quick little dabble in alcoholism}. Puts his own pride to the side to take care of his family. I mean really. Fellas, I am gonna do you a favor… if you are ever thinking that you just have no idea what your lady wants, I will give you a hint. Jack. Jack is what we want. You are welcome.
Kevin. He’s fun. He’s famous. He’s adorable. He’s hilarious. He is light- hearted and driven. Guys, sprinkle a little Kevin in with your Jack and you will be on the road to something special with your gal.
Kate. Love this girl. She has real struggles: weight and self confidence. Her struggles are raw. But she is strong, loving and sweet. She knows what she wants and she is not afraid to pursue it. And man, the girl can sing.
Randall. He is amazing. If you did not laugh hysterically and then cry uncontrollably when he brought his father home to meet his family, then I can’t help you. And who did not have both tears of laughter and sadness with his accidentally ingesting ‘shrooms and the hallucinations that followed. He is everything. Could not love this character {or actor} more. Dudes, add a healthy dose of Randall mixed in with your Kevin and Jack…bam….everlasting love.
This show will give you all the feels. I am loving learning about the Pearsons’. Much better than Keeping Up with the Kardashians {are they still relevant?}. I don’t know if I mentioned this yet, but check it out. Fair warning though: you won’t be able to stop obsessing. I am your case and point.
